Clarke House Volunteer Events

What better way to learn about history than stepping back and seeing it re-enacted. That is exactly what the Clarke House Volunteers bring to their events. From Cooking demonstrations, children's colonial toys, household chores, and more, you can learn and see what everyday life was like in 18th Century America at the time of the American Revolution. All events are free of charge.

Winter Event
11:00am - 3:00pm
Spend a winter's day observing and participating in various 18th century household domestics. There will be hands on activities for both children and adults.
Saturday, April 28th
Communiversity
12:00pm - 5:00pm
Come join Prineton Battlefield's Clarke House Volunteers at Princeton’s annual Communiversity event in downton Princeton. Clarke House Volunteers will in period dress with an 18th century artillery piece and clothing for children and adults to try on and take a pictures with. Period games will also be available for visitors to try.

Cooking Day

Volunteers will be doing open fire cooking demonstrations outside the Clarke House at Princeton Battlefield State Park. Come see the different ways food was cooked and baked over an open fire pit and learn the challenges of feeding a large family in the 18th century.

Game Day

Come learn how to play 18th century style! Volunteers in period dress will demonstrate a variety of 18th century games and activities – old and young alike are invited to participate - join us on the lawn in front of the Clarke House from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and join in the fun!

Candle Making

Fall was a busy time on a working 18th century farm. One very important project each year was making candles to give light in the house during the long winter months. Come out to Princeton Battlefield State Park to learn about 18th and 19th century lighting and make your very own hand dipped candle!
